Dark age? Meh. I do not believe so. It makes no sense to me that a lack of knowledge can be borne from a overproduction of information. One merely has to pay attention. The good thing about so much knowledge is that it can be cross referenced with ease and accuracy. If the workplace is losing money due to interuptions, the workplace should streamline itself so that such interuptions are minimized. Complete destruction of such would be ideal, but impossible without robots that are extremely expensive and ultimately Japanese. Attention span can be blamed on the nature of The News. When a big story hits, there is no true weight placed on it. When no story exists, an equal amount of weight is placed on the droll and uninteresting. Oh, a cat show! How wonderful.
